Iron Man Special Collector’s Edition Blu-ray news from Paramount, kinda

So when we talked to Jon Favreau way back in 2006(?!), who would’ve thought that Paramount’s Iron Man would’ve been such a big hit? Well, we did, because we think Jon Rocks — and Iron Man Rocks — so of course it would be an excellent fun summer flick. So we’ve been watching our clock, tapping our toes, waiting for the news on the Blu-ray Iron Man release.

Via the Amazon.com preorder page, there’s news of an Iron Man (Special Collector’s Edition) [Blu-ray] (2008) — with a release date of September 30th. No specs or anything else, just that the Blu-ray Disc Iron Man is listed at $39.99. Nothing officially has been announced on Iron Man Blu-ray news from Paramount, and trust me, we tried contacting everyone there.

Since we’re such good friends with Jon Favreau, perhaps we’ll drop him a note and dig for answers. Stay tuned.

Update: OK Ok! Here’s the official Blu-ray news from Paramount: Iron Man Blu-ray News

News on Mike Myers’ ‘Austin Powers 4′

I’m told that Mike Myers has started writing Austin Powers 4 which will be an homage to his father. “It’s very personal with a father and son theme loosely based on his own life,” an insider tells me. As Myers has previously said, this fourth installment of the super spy spoof movie series will focus on Austin’s arch-villain Dr. Evil, who was based on Blofeld of the Bond films. But what hasn’t been known is that the AP4 plot is really about Dr. Evil and his son (introduced already as Scott Evil, played by Seth Green). Myers is penning his idea with Baby Mama’s Mike McCullers, who collaborated with Myers on Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Austin Powers 3: Goldmember. - from Nikki

Not funny ha-ha, but funny bang — Jerry Lewis held over gun in hand luggage

From UK:

The 82-year-old actor and comedian was stopped at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, en route to Detroit, when staff spotted the gun during routine baggage screening.

Police detained Lewis and confiscated a .22-calibre handgun. He was cited for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, a spokesman for Las Vegas police said.

The star’s manager, Claudia Marghilano, said the gun was a “hollowed-out prop gun” which Lewis uses in his stage show, adding that it was incapable of firing.

Shia LaBeouf Was Encouraged To Flee Crash Scene But Refused

From MTV:

It’s one of those dilemmas that sounds like it could have come right out of a movie: A young rising Hollywood star is in a late-night car crash involving alcohol and sees a chance to flee the scene and ditch responsibility.

According to a report on AccessHollywood.com, such a scenario played out early Sunday morning, when Shia LaBeouf was involved in a car crash that police now say was not his fault.

An alleged eyewitness to the crash, Brian Perrulli, told the site that he had arrived on the scene after the crash and stopped to help when he overheard the man who was in the vehicle LaBeouf hit telling the actor to leave the scene.

“Shia was tending to the other people in the car, signing over information, like insurance and stuff, and basically, I overheard the guy tell him, ‘You should just get out of here and go,’ and Shia said, ‘Nah, man. I gotta deal with this. My license plate, it’s my car. I don’t wanna go; I gotta deal with this,’” Perrulli said. The eyewitness added that the unnamed person from the other vehicle promised the “Indiana Jones” star that he would cover for him.

“The guy Shia hit told him, ‘You should get outta here,’ and ‘I never saw you,’ ” Perrulli claimed. “He said, ‘I never saw you,’ and Shia said, ‘No, man, I gotta stay here and deal with this. It’s my problem.’ ”

New Robocop ‘definitely not a sequel’

From MTV:

Serve the public trust. Protect the innocent. Uphold the law.

Robocop has three prime directives he has to follow at all times. Producer Brad Fischer has just one: “Make a great film,” he told MTV News of his hopes for a “Robocop” reboot, coming to theaters from director Darren Aronofsky in 2010.

And make no mistake, Fischer and his co-producer Mike Medavoy insisted: Their new “Robocop” is a reboot along the lines of “Batman Begins,” despite early online rumors to the contrary.

Asked where in the series the fourth film would fall, whether it would come after the first, second or third films in the series’ internal universe, Fischer and Medavoy were adamant that it would stand on its own, apart from the character’s earlier incarnations.

“None of [the earlier films are] going to be canonical, as a matter of fact,” Fischer revealed. “I wouldn’t say it’s a direct sequel.”

“Definitely not a sequel,” Medavoy added, saying he preferred the term “reimagining.”

Scandals? YouTube vids? Can’t hurt Miley Cyrus’ sales

From LATimes:

No amount of photo scandals and catty videos seem to be hurting Miley Cyrus’ sales potential. The teen star will debut at No. 1 on the U.S. pop charts Wednesday morning with the strongest showing of her career. Billboard has her “Breakout” selling 371,000 copies, a tally that’s strong enough to give Miley the second-highest debut by a female artist in 2008.

Only Mariah Carey fared better, selling 463,000 copies in her debut week. To put Miley’s total in perspective, her “Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus” opened at No. 1 last year with 326,000 copies, but that album was directly tied into her Disney Channel series and tour, whereas “Breakout” is a standalone Miley affair.

While the tween market is certainly one not to be taken lightly, Cyrus fared better than much-hyped 2008 releases from Madonna and Janet Jackson, respectively. Madonna’s “Hard Candy” sold 280,000 copies when it debuted earlier this year, and Janet came in with 181,000 copies back in March.

Paramount films fuel Viacom

From Variety:

Paramount’s triple play — Indy, “Iron Man” and “Kung Fu Panda” — punched up revenue at parent Viacom by 21% to $3.9 billion last quarter, providing welcome relief as slower advertising growth continues to rattle cable networks and punish media stocks.

“The media industry is not immune (to a slowing economy). I understand the frustration of shareholders who have seen share prices fall victim to the economy,” chairman Sumner Redstone said in an I-share-your-pain pep talk during a conference call. “There is opportunity even in difficult times for companies that have strong and enduring assets.”

James Cameron toplines 3DX panel

From Variety:

Twentieth Century Fox filmed entertainment chair Jim Gianopulos, DreamWorks Animation topper Jeffrey Katzenberg and director James Cameron will give a joint keynote at the kickoff event for 3DX, the 3-D film and technology festival slated for November in Singapore.

Plans for the joint presentation are still uncertain, but Gianopulos and Katzenberg are expected to begin the keynote, then bring Cameron in to join them.

The joint appearance is skedded for the 3DX business forum on Nov. 19.

Fox and DreamWorks have major bets on digital 3-D. Katzenberg has announced that all DreamWorks Animation releases going forward will be in 3-D, beginning with “Monsters vs. Aliens” in 2009.
