Jon Favreau is at work on ‘Iron Man’ sequel
Just talked to Jon Favreau a bit ago, and he said that while there hasn’t been an formal announcement on the sequel to “Iron Man,” he’s begun developing it. “We’re working on it now,” he said, “which hasn’t been officially announced. It will be released in 2010.”
No surprise there, of course. The first film in the franchise has pulled in well over a half-billion dollars in worldwide box office and was met with strong reviews.

Iron Man Special Collector’s Edition Blu-ray news from Paramount, kinda
So when we talked to Jon Favreau way back in 2006(?!), who would’ve thought that Paramount’s Iron Man would’ve been such a big hit? Well, we did, because we think Jon Rocks — and Iron Man Rocks — so of course it would be an excellent fun summer flick. So we’ve been watching our clock, tapping our toes, waiting for the news on the Blu-ray Iron Man release.
Via the Amazon.com preorder page, there’s news of an Iron Man (Special Collector’s Edition) [Blu-ray] (2008) — with a release date of September 30th. No specs or anything else, just that the Blu-ray Disc Iron Man is listed at $39.99. Nothing officially has been announced on Iron Man Blu-ray news from Paramount, and trust me, we tried contacting everyone there.
Since we’re such good friends with Jon Favreau, perhaps we’ll drop him a note and dig for answers. Stay tuned.
Update: OK Ok! Here’s the official Blu-ray news from Paramount: Iron Man Blu-ray News
So What Was All The Fuss About? Marvel Locks In Jon Favreau For ‘Iron Man 2′
From Nikki:
It’s not officially announced yet, but I’m told that Marvel Studios and Iron Man director Jon Favreau have reached a deal for him to helm the sequel, due out in 2010. (Robert Downey Jr had a sequel clause in his contract so he’s on board.) Marvel Studios boss David Maisel was quick to put out a “definitely” richer offer to Favreau, but not quick enough for Jon — who used the Internet and other media to rile up the movie’s many fans by spreading nonsense that Marvel was dragging its feet and then lowballing him. Granted Maisel is no day at the beach himself, but, seriously, could Favreau have been more of an asshole?
Regarding Those ‘Iron Man 2′ Rumors…

“I learned this morning that Marvel Studios boss David Maisel very recently put out an offer to Jon Favreau to direct the sequel and that the offer is “definitely” richer than what the helmer received for the original. Even so, the negotiation has only just begun. So all that Internet blather about how Marvel doesn’t want to bring back Favreau because the studio is lowballing him is just b.s. As an insider told me, “They’re not paying him the same wage. They’re definitely paying him a higher fee to direct this one. What, do people think Marvel is stupid? Of course, the movie was successful, so they’re offering him more.”" - From Nikki
Problems with Jon Favreau and Marvel regarding Iron Man 2?
Q: Any good news on contract talks between you and Marvel yet?
A: It’s been five weeks since the one and only phone call my reps have gotten from Marvel. I know their hands are full with the Hulk and I’m sure they will get into it shortly, as they tell me they intend to. I ran into the Marvel guys at the Hulk premiere and everyone sounded eager to get to work on IM2.
I am concerned, however, about the announced release date of April 2010. Neither Robert nor I were consulted about this and we are both concerned about how realistic the date is in light of the fact that we have no script, story or even writers hired yet. This genre of movie is best when it is done thoughtfully and with plenty of preparation. It might be better to follow the BB/DK, X/X2 three year release pattern than to scramble for a date. It is difficult because there are no Marvel 09 releases and they need product, but I also think we owe it to the fans to have a great version of IM2 and, at this point, we would have less time to make it than the first one.
