Madonna dedicates “Like a Virgin” to pope
Pop star Madonna, once accused by the Vatican of staging one of the most satanic shows in history, surprised fans by dedicating her hit “Like a Virgin” to the pope at a sold-out concert held in Rome.
“I dedicate this song to the pope, because I’m a child of God. All of you are also children of God,” the 50-year old “Queen of Pop” told the 60,000 fans that flocked to the Italian stop of her “Sticky & Sweet” world tour on Saturday.
Italian newspapers gushed over the singer’s electric performance and called the dedication a surprising provocation.
“At the Roman leg of her tour, Madonna didn’t miss the opportunity for a provocation that will certainly be discussed,” Italy’s top newspaper Corriere della Sera said in a front-page report.
Madonna, who comes from a devout Italian Catholic family, has raised the ire of the Catholic Church in the past with sexually charged antics designed to shock.
In 2006, she staged a mock-crucifixion at a concert in Rome to the backdrop of accusations from the Vatican of blasphemy.
The Vatican also condemned her controversial 1989 video for the song “Like a Prayer” that featured burning crosses, statues crying blood and Madonna seducing a black Jesus.
The Vatican later panned a show where she decked the stage out with religious imagery as one of the most “satanic shows in the history of humanity”.

Demi Moore once squirted down lesbians with her breast milk, says Madonna’s brother. Wait, what?
BUSTY DEMI MOORE once squirted a group of lesbians with her own breast milk.
The Striptease star’s cheeky antics were revealed by MADONNA’S brother CHRISTOPHER CICCONE, who was partying with Madge and Demi when the incident occurred on a night out.
Christopher - who recently released his tell-all book Life With My Sister Madonna - reckons it was Demi’s party trick at the time.
He said: We went out and Demi was dancing up on me and humping me from behind.
She was lactating at the time and she was squirting breast milk at my lesbian friends.
My friend Michelle called me the next morning and asked me: ‘How do I get breast milk out of my black dress?’
I replied: ‘How the f*** would I know? Call Demi!’

Madonna infuriates McCain with Hitler-Mugabe sequence at Cardiff concert
The campaign of John McCain went head-to-head with Madonna today after the 50-year-old pop diva appeared to compare the Republican candidate to Hitler and Robert Mugabe.
Madonna, who kicked off her “Sticky and Sweet” world tour at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff yesterday, made the swipe during a performance of Get Stupid, when Mr McCain’s image was flashed up alongside images of the Führer and Zimbabwean dictator, as well as destruction and global warming.
In a none-too-subtle contrast, Barack Obama was bracketed in a subsequent sequence alongside Mahatma Gandhi, John Lennon and Al Gore.
A McCain campaign spokesman, Tucker Bounds, condemned the segment. “The comparisons are outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time,” Mr Bounds said.

Madonna “Disappointed” by Friends’ Birthday Snub
Madonna admitted she was “disappointed” that several of her close showbiz pals failed to attend her 50th birthday celebrations at the weekend.
The Material Girl, who turned 50 on Saturday, celebrated her big day at the swanky Volstead nightclub in London’s Mayfair — but noticeably absent at the $200,000 party were friends Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney.
So it was left to husband Guy Ritchie, 39, daughter Lourdes, 11, sons Rocco, eight, and David, two, around 50 of her dancers and some work colleagues to toast her half century.
In a 40-minute speech to her 90 guests, Madonna thanked Guy, her children and her Kabbalah religion, before admitting: “I’m really disappointed.
Madonna is like 100 billion years old, doesn’t look a day over 75 billion
Sure, Madonna may have scandalized the Vatican and shocked nearly every parent in America at some point during her long and provocative career full of shrewd image transformations.
But as the Material Girl hits the half-century mark this weekend, she may be stepping into a role that even she, with all her marketing savvy, might not have dreamed up: poster child for the 50-and-fabulous set.
Who cares about those recent tabloid headlines linking her to the Yankees’ A-Rod, or that tell-all book by her brother? Many women of a certain age look at Madonna and see a wonderfully fit, stylish, vigorous woman who’s made a fortune based on smarts, talent and ambition — no “Blond Ambition” puns, please — and just keeps on going. Her latest world tour, “Sticky & Sweet,” kicks off in Wales a week after her Aug. 16 birthday.
Talk about your New 50.

From People:
Madonna has released an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, denying that she is divorcing Guy Ritchie or having an affair with Yankee star Alex Rodriguez.
In it, she says: “My husband and I are not planning on getting a divorce. I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary, who manages both of us. I brought my kids to a Yankee game. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study.”
Madonna’s brother to publish a book about his extensive experience of… um… being Madonna’s brother

Ciccone, one of Madonna’s five siblings, wrote the book with Wendy Leigh. She has also written biographies of John F. Kennedy Jr, Britain’s Prince Edward, Liza Minelli and ghost-written Zsa Zsa Gabor’s autobiography.
